Eye Contact – Written Monday 6th November 2006 (Aged 31)

Eye Contact

eye contact
that inherent shyness
forced to look away
made to feel worthless
parents found in a garage sale
feelings destined to fail
uncomfortable in peoples presence
told that i was worthless
somehow looking to accept
in the eyes of others
seems to remind me
of that time i had to look away

eye contact
that inherent shyness
that some have cruelly –
hauled me over hot coals for
people who should know more
the cracks in my ceramic
have dulled with time
my crippling shyness
my overactive mind
my innermost feelings
which i have never worked so hard
just to overcome
