She Would Say – Written March 2004 (Aged 29)

She Would Say

she would say
that i was not well
that all these things in the past
were starting to tell
there is no disease
that let’s me fall down
to my knees and apologise
i am just me
it is my responsibility

she would say
that if i had concentrated on my school books
instead of the classroom window
and if i had not brought into their talk
and their philosophy
i would be better off
a wealthier version of me
but i was born questioning
and i cannot see a reason
for which i should just accept
especially when i take a look around
and see that everything is a mess
