Old Friend Expectation
oh,
it is that crafty –
old friend,
‘expectation’,
you know,
the one that has let us all down
the expectation to behave
to play,
well, dig your own funky grave
oh,
it is that crafty –
old friend,
‘expectation’,
here it comes
knocking on the legacy door
swigging from a bottle of youth flavoured wine
walking blind
it barges in,
and it lets you down
it says, ‘i hope you do not mind’.
and then proceeds to hang around
oh,
it was my turn
and there i was,
i was setting fire to my own self esteem
expect it would not burn
so i doused it in the fuel of my dreams
and that, that was the hardest lesson to learn
