The Day Leaves at Midnight
the day leaves at midnight
on a train that is heading into the past
we stand on the platform
and wonder why it does not last
the day pulls out at midnight
we stand on the platform
and turn to face the approaching train
some days i do not want to face the day
some days i really feel the strain
the day, it broods slowly
stoking up its engine, ready to leave
it is hard to live day to day
sometimes life can barely breathe
the day leaves at midnight
on the same old regular train
we watch, as it disappears into the distance
knowing we will never see it again
