The Year of the Dragon – Written Between Tuesday 15th February 1994 and November 1994 (Aged 18/19)

The Year of the Dragon

they say it will be loud
they will tell us to get indoors
in the year 1999
they will kick down your doors
and all the older people
will tell you that it is the end of the world
the year of the dragon
it will come down from the sky
to collect those who have not yet died
the armies will be in the streets
and the tear gas will get into your eyes
and as they liberate another person
it is the dream that refuses to die
it is 1999 and the world looks far from fine
babies deformed in the belly
the population educated
by a greedy power source
and all we can do is sit and wait
and watch as things die
we knew years ago that this would happen
we did not d enough, but we did try
the world is quaking
the streets are splitting in two
the cityscape skyline is shaking
and i am running with you
1999, the year of the dragon
the world as we know is is too far gone
burnt and destroyed by man
as the sky falls in, when will we ever understand?
