Sugar Lumps and Sweet Tea – Written Friday 28th October 1994 (Aged 19)

Sugar Lumps and Sweet Tea

i used to know her name
tuesday, so strange
what does it mean to me
sugar lumps and sweet tea
i used to be outside in the rain
but there were always hailstones
so much pain,
i used to make real cars
out of childish lego
and although they had four wheels
they had nowhere to go
i used to be so shy
but now i am all show
and i do not know why
i used to be his friend
we faced everything
but he went off, to another land
i used to walk at night
but i got mum up, because i was so scared
and asked her, leave on the landing light
that is how i used to be
looking through the windows of life
looking at a different me
growing up so strange
tuesday is here again
what does it mean to me
sugar lumps and sweet tea?
