What is Fate?

what is fate?
my grandmother waiting at the gate?
what is chance,
someone,
just giving me another chance?
do i question the rules
or do i question the fools
what is fate?
my friend who is leaving
or the world heaving
to the the beat of cultural revolution
what is life
me on my own
looking at pictures of my wife
but she is somewhere in the future
and fades when held to the light
what is today
does it matter,
it will be forgotten anyway
