Handed to Me on a Cracked Plate – Written May 1995 (Aged 24)

Handed to Me on a Cracked Plate

i was always grateful for my sanity
and i still am grateful for my sanity
i wonder though,
was it handed to me on a cracked plate
one with a badly painted design

i am grateful for some sanity
even if it is only partially mine
there is a line between sane and insanity
i know this and i know the line is fine

i am grateful for any piece
any piece that will help me to thaw
i long for some peace
just so i can complete this jigsaw
i watch the play with my eyes
and i feel it in my bones
so it must come as no surprise
that i rarely feel at home

it can be a barrel of laughs
but often it plays like russian roulette
we live life like the barrel of a gun
so i am grateful for my sanity
any ounce that i can save
