Name Calling – Written Thursday 16th October 2008 (Aged 33)

Name Calling

i took the name calling
on the chin
i took the immaturity
with a touch of swing
i took the strange looks
with a pinch of salt
and unread books
i took the lack of love
with a religious ease
that need in something above
that just reveals a need

i took the lack of punch
with a sort of swagger
that left me looking drunk
and up against the dagger
i took the sadness
with consummate ease
at least till the balloons burst
and the dreams began to bleed
i took them to new places
but the stamp on their hand
revealed the saddest of faces
an that they’d never get the band
