Out of Step – Written Monday 20th February 1995 (Aged 19)

Out of Step

out of step, out of my mind
the television is out of tune
and the picture is hard to find
out of step,
and the clock is losing time
yet it is nailed to the wall
you are losing your morality
as nature beckons and calls
you are losing your sanity
in the confines of a cell
enclosed by padded walls
close your eyes and try to make it stop
open them again and notice around you
that you have not lost the lot
because you had nothing to lose –
in the first place
out of step with the rest
and i thought you were the best
i was out of my mind
i was just parading my soul
but my body was not hard to hard
the astral world appeared to lurch
and they did not seem to mind
that i was not from any church
no one clapped and no one jeered
out of step, out of my mind
but i am always near
