Time is Against Us All
and now time
like the comedian past their best
who tells a line
already easily guessed
time has arrived
without a chuckle
and without being late
it feels like that they travelled
and unravelled in the arms of fate
and now this has become more
an illness finds a way
a family of unresolved problems
finally has much more to say
it is a not a lack of love
of hastily arranged tokens
but as ever in life
it is those words that remain unspoken
someone reaches out for me
someone for whom –
reaching has never really happened before
but i know this part of my life
is just another cycle
and i have been burnt
and scolded before
a lifetime of rooms i have lived in
now i watch someone move towards a final door
