Youth – Written September 2002 (Aged 27)

Youth

and it disappeared –
in the blink of my eye
but just i did not say hello
no did i get so say goodbye

i did not send it a wreath
nor did i stand by its graveside
it just came and went
i realise childhood was my prelude
and now it is all so different

those younger years
disappeared without a word
those awkward years
those years when you tried too hard
looking for friends in a pool of tears

kissing goodbye to youth
well i never did do that
and that is the truth
the kind of truth that sits so deep inside
because youth, it never did say hello
and it certainly did not say goodbye

James Garratt – September 2002
