I Have Always Used Humour to Self Medicate – Written Saturday 30th October 2021 (Aged 46)

I Have Always Used Humour to Self Medicate

i have always used humour –
as a form of medication
what does that say –
about my many life situations?
what else can you do
when the barge has sunk
and every feeling,
is classed as antique junk
my humour is my medication
and it occupies my top bunk

i have always used humour
as a type of medicine
some people have said –
it’s showing off or undue hedonism
or that,
it’s just an unresolved coping mechanism
but all that feels uncouth
because with my humour
there is a brutal truth
an honesty that rides over the hill
i have always used humour in this way
it is how i think and how i feel
