The Ugly Duckling Story Was My Biography

i was never in the, ‘in crowd’
i was a bookworm
i was never a head turn
especially not in that last year at school
i was never in the, ‘in crowd’
and i had no real desire to be so
of course others talk about school
and say,
it was the best days of their lives
well if you are still talking about it –
all these years later
i have to ask,
what life have you lived?
i was never in the, ‘in crowd’
and the girls did not want me
not when i was at school
and the ugly duckling,
was unwittingly my biography
it just took time –
for me to see that people are just so scared
and you can be what you want to be
i was never in the, ‘in crowd’
and the, ‘in crowd’, it never impressed me
in fact it always kind of depressed me
that is why the ugly duckling story
was, unwittingly, my biography
