Our Daily View – Friday 30th August 2019

Our Daily View

there are people protesting on our streets
our government,
closing down parliament
to achieve,
its ideological aims
we used to watch these countries on the news
no we can look out of our windows
and it is our daily view
we used to scoff at these tinpot despots
military dictatorships,
and to visit countries like this,
feels like we no longer have to make a trip
a layer of society obliged to no one
with their corrupt money
and their portrait family
their big houses and grounds to roam
we used to watch the news,
and after a while of chaos and anarchy
turn off the news,
we could retreat back to our ‘safe’, ‘safe’ land
but now we have a different daily view
