Father’s Face
you should have told me
from day one that you hated me
that when traced,
you saw only a father’s face
you should have told me
that you were not –
allowed to express your feelings –
as a child,
not those –
for a father who left –
when you were so very young
and allowed your hope –
to escape to the wild
you should have told me
that i would have to take his place
you should have told me
that you had been driven mad
just searching for reasons
i would have understood –
why you felt so sad
you should have told me from day one
that you were in a dark place
that you could never get to know
not whilst you saw only a father’s face
