Just One Oar
like so many –
when reached out too
there is a defensive reaction
scared and unsure
when we tried to reach out
they searched for a door
like so many
as a child, always put down
never told to stand tall
put down by the petty
and the cruel
never told that they are special
at home made to feel so small
like so many
any help is refused
because the moment trust is lost
they feel used
even though the options were laid out
and they could choose
like so many
left to use just one oar
defensive and hiding
looking for a door
stuck like the needle
misjudging the way forwards
