You Can Drown in Your High Art
you can drown in your high art
you can tangle yourself up –
in the idea that what you write –
is special and worthy
but words are just words
i should tie it to controversy
you can pretend to pretend –
in the middle class suburb –
you cling to with greasy hands
you can look at colour charts
but they all look so bland
you can read your newspapers
and sign their stupid petitions
you can gulp down their moral claims
happy with finding someone to blame
let me rant at a world –
that has a low end voice
a world that is bloodied and worn out
choking on having to accept choice
you can drown in your high art
