All The Things Society Wants You To Be

all the things society wants you to be
gender, status and sexuality
burn the midnight oil,
with the fuel of your creativity
let them break down your hope
all the things society wants you to be
it did not mean much when i was twenty
i thought i was, ‘cool’,
and i had no need to listen
but i was already part of a system
was i a problem or i was a solution
i just do not know,
i was trying to swim in waves of disillusionment
all the things society wants you to be
you can dabble in notions of freedom
and idea that you could be free
but in days of privilege and taste
it can be very hard to see
all the things that society wants you to be
