They Never Said They Love Him
they never said –
they love him
the language –
was stilted
and it tripped –
over itself
it never looked –
anything less –
than clumsy
as it tried –
to connect
but it always –
looked a mess
they never said –
they love him
they never spoke –
with absolute ease
hope,
felt halfway there
a lack of display
doe not mean –
an actual lack
but a, ‘love you’,
is better than –
a pat on the back
