I Was Not A Rejected Child – Written May 2010 (Aged 35)

I Was Not A Rejected Child

i was not a rejected child
but i understand,
what it means,
not to be part of the family narrative
to carry a sense of guilt
and a sense of shame
i remember how difficult i was
wild in the head and insane
but i do not accept all of the blame
because i understand,
what it means to sit apart
to sit in grandparents houses
hear inappropriate adult conversations
the sort no child should hear
and i remember,
putting all those pieces together
so as i listen to your wicked bile
but i know i was not a rejected child
