Needless Things – Written September 1997 (Aged 22)

Needless Things

i cannot harbour needless things
or seamless seams
i can’t harbour ambiguous conversation
the type,
where you’re never sure what they mean
could go either way
i cannot constantly rotate the dial of endless dreams
though my mind,
like any mind,
does contain many things
i cannot harbour secret secrets
lost times and all night features
because merry-go-rounds just go round
they only get me down
i cannot harbour needless things
heavy cloaks or painted rings
i cannot handle long distance communication
when all I want is something close
lakes of happiness that have suddenly froze
i cannot handle needless people
even though their need may well exist
i wonder if their life just becomes lonely
and contact is sorely missed
i just can’t think of anything else
i cannot harbour needless things
so I just try to find myself
