I Look At Traffic – Written Sunday 13th May 2007 (Aged 32)

I Look At Traffic

i rub my eyes
i have strange dreams
i look at traffic
i wonder what it means
i hold onto my wife,
my love,
and all that is right
i sleep,
but not as i usually do
just for once,
i am holding tight
death,
this strange unwelcome friend
it has cast its spell
and shown us –
that there is a permanent end
i sit on my settee
i look at the fox cubs in the garden
i make myself a tea
and i think,
i think quite selfishly
what death must mean to me
i huddle down at work
with conversation somehow distance
it’s not really going on
i hold onto my wife,
my love,
and all that is right
