Absence – Written June 2007 (Aged 32)

Absence

did they sit down and tell you
that you were loved
did they explain that his leaving –
his not coming round anymore
was not your fault
did they treat you with respect
or did they feed you lies –
designed to cripple your emotions
and instil fear inside
did they explain that you were a princess
and even though the pain was great
you were not to blame
did they try to plug the holes
that as an adult leaked endless tears
did they tell you that you were loved
