Half Way Through Thirty Two
younger people can think they’re outrageous
they can colour their hair
find the strangest things to wear
but it’s just a trend
ideas pasted from friend to friend
yesterday i rebelled!
i got up late –
and hacked my way into the orange juice carton
i turned on my ipod and played dolly parton
we do not do what our contemporaries do
and me, me i am half way through thirty two
i try to do what is important to me
i ignored the latest, ‘trendy’ comedy on bbc3
i watched all the comedy on uktv gold
and relaxed in the freedom of becoming old
i wore my comfy slippers with unbridled care
and happily ran hands though my receding hair
for a moment or two at least,
i felt happy with myself
content to no longer compete with somebody else
i blew a raspberry to the world
and for once, i did not care a jot
i dropped the silly slang
and became happy just to say, fuck the lot
i mean, what else is there to do
because me, me i am half way through thirty two

This communicates a wonderful feeling. I wish it would linger more often… a great piece. 🙂

Thank you. It’s what a I call a, ‘slice of life piece’. I try capture the ordinariness of life, it’s that which is special. I think I am trying out ideas in this piece and styles.
