Two Point Four Children – Written Wednesday 12th May 2006 (Aged 31)

Two Point Four Children

perfect families with perfect smiles
but scratch at the veneer
and you will find –
the smile looks more like a sneer
sibling rivalry –
a kind of jealously that stalks and preys
an age gap that counts too many days
a stepdad who cannot love
not like he loves his own
perfect families where perfection is all alone
sunday lunch all sat round the table
going through the script
improvisation will never be truly able
and the warmth is sadly missed
the outside world looks on and everyone pretends
and who knows what words to say
all we know is that someone suffers
because these family issues never go away
