Age Has Fallen To It’s Knees
My heart is open—
and now,
it bleeds,
and my age
has fallen to its knees;
but
I do not carry laden regret—
just an idea
that somehow everything could have been different;
but
that is the nature of my bones,
that is why
I think too much when I am at home,
that is why
I look at Mum’s charm bracelet,
knowing
important things have come and gone;
and
that is why my heart is open—
but
for all of us,
redemption is often a letter that we never sent,
and every memory
is caught, and so often so very bent;
but here we are,
with our laundry like thoughts
and our stage‑managed hope—
my heart is and always is open;
but the decor has somehow changed,
somehow modernised,
but the patina remains.
