Numbers
I am lost…
but then…
there are a lot of numbers
for me to be lost in,
and I can’t find the alcohol run
of my mother’s bottled gin.
So, I am lost,
and I think people
bathe in assumptions,
and they lie on a bed
that is sprung by the bounce of ego.
And life,
it’s one of inner lights and consumption;
and me,
I always caught trying to function.
I am taught
that I just need to find the right junction;
but then
I watch others
as petals delicately cover their exposed needs.
And,
diagnosis always starts an internal bleed,
one needing an eternal feed.
So it’s me,
and it’s me that bends down,
hoping to grab a handful of the sweetest weeds.
I am lost,
and it is hard to believe,
but these numbers keep on adding up—
even as I struggle to find some of them,
on my hands and knees.
