Did You Rock the Cradle – Written November 2001 (Aged 26)

Did You Rock the Cradle

did you rock the cradle
tablespoons of your poison
or was it in the ladle
did you hold my hand
on the way to school
when i was an infant
i learned about kings
and you taught me about a tyrant
did you congratulate me,
when the first thought in my head –
scrambled for freedom
and clambered out of my bed
did you think,
before you took aim
i did not see you rushing –
towards responsibility to make a claim
in fact you are rather crushing
i tried to turn on your lights
but there is something missing
did you watch me grow up
and let your love scream out loud
was it ever there at all,
could you ever just be proud
