You Can’t Replace Years With Minutes – Written Sunday 1st October 2000 (Aged 25)

You Can’t Replace Years With Minutes

no one can put back what is missing
a space can’t be filled with something new
you can’t years and replace then have minutes
you know what is gone is a hole
no one can put back what is gone
best intentions don’t help you sleep at night
you can’t lose a fortune and replace it easily
a few pence won’t mean as much
and when you have had the golden touch
bronze will never seem enough
you can’t replace years with minutes
a spillage so vast is strange
it can’t be soaked up with a tissue
all a tissue can do is wipe your eyes dry
a classic month can not be replaced with a new issue
a space to stare into is not much fun
best intentions cannot stem the flow
best intentions mean so well
but when it is gone, then it is gone
you can’t replace years with minutes
