Intrepidation
where did this anxiety come from
did it walk in –
as they slipped out
what happened to younger days
when it was fine to scream and shout
when did this fear seep in?
did it happen –
when their life force slipped away
and it came knocking –
on the saddest of days
i used to leap from place to place
now i sit at the table
and mumble my way through grace
when did this caution seep in
was it when –
i threw caution to the wind
and all the medals i had –
i gave to a friend
where do i go
when others show doubt
my eyelids can be heavy
and my soul starts to pout
i have done what i only ever could
and there are rules that we all flout
as cautions grips me, i try to be good
