I Would Be a King – Written Sunday 16th April 2000 (Aged 25)

I Would Be a King

i would be a king
if i carried a bag of gold
but all i carry is a bag of cold
i would be your king
if my looks,
did not let me down
and i had not been born
with clowns feet
and a clowns frown
but i would be your king
i would give you all i own
plastic jewels,
from an amusement arcade
plastic trinkets,
taken from my plastic throne
we could have it made
but you are scared to believe
and you are too scared to leave
but you have learnt how to weep
now you need to learn,
how to sleep
i would be a king
but all the innocence has gone
this is a cheap amusement arcade
pennies are all i have
but i would still give them to you
i wonder if you can be saved
