The Job – Written Monday 3rd December 2001 (Aged 26)

The Job

what are you doing,
in that job
in that life
looking for a jackpot
or a coat that fits right
really though,
who gets what they deserve?

what are you doing,
juggling those balls
in the job,
they just treat us like fools

my managers manager
makes mistakes
but he passes the buck
guess it was him who got the lucky breaks

what are you doing,
working so hard
getting all the work done
do you know, it has nothing to do with hard work
it is just the colour of your tongue

so we keep on looking
flicking through the directories
it feels like a circus act that we need to be booking
for hope and a chance
i will carry on sitting here, waiting
