Material Possessions – Written April 1999 (Aged 24)

Material Possessions

no car –
for you to drive
no money –
for you to spend
no place of my own
for you to get used at
just me alone
no car, no money, no flat
just a stash of stories
about some wonderful memories
and a soul happy to be free
no expensive clothes
no talk for the pretend
no clever jokes
just me –
as or whatever i am
i have nothing material
for you to waste time on
i guess i will never meet you
you will be gone
before you even get here
it does not feel like a loss
shallowness just beings fear
empty people, i do not need

James Garratt – April 1999
