Broad Shoulders – Written Thursday 12th August 2021 (Aged 46)

Broad Shoulders

i never thought about
the weight –
of what you might carry
as you get older
my parents generation spoke in sayings
and would talk about broad shoulders
but all those sayings
do not mean anything any more
they were mis directions
and a detour
they avoided meaningful destinations
and such important conversations

now i have got older
and i have made many decisions
some which have changed my life
from the seemingly simple choices
to marriage and having a wife
from opting out
when i could have opted in
from work and jobs
i all too easily threw in the bin
it is now i can experience
the full definition of regret
as life experience, i dutifully collect
