When I Told Her – Written December 2011 (Aged 36)

When I Told Her

my voice cracked and almost broke
when i told her
i was yearning to be held
but somehow not held
i was longing to run
but somehow never run
oh dear,
what does this all mean
caught between nightmares
and the impossible dream
i thought,
i thought it would be a forever
now i know, all too well
i somehow thought it would last
the conversations,
the moments, the hope,
the phone calls, the time together
but now, today –
i know with a painful stabbing pain
that they are all slipping away

James Garratt – December 2011
