What Do I Know Now?

what did i know then?
what do i know now?
what did i see then?
what do i see now?
is it the same old ghosts
sitting in the armchair
too much religion
obscuring peoples ability to care
i have walked from here to there
and i have looked around the land
while you weep for jesus
the rest of us try to understand
i know less,
than i did yesterday
but probably more than i do tomorrow
let’s make a cuckoo’s nest
and repent for all our sorrow
when the doves fly,
and the guns finally stop shooting
still i will not understand
as emotions become subject to looting
what did i know then?
what do i know now?
