The Future – Written Sunday 5th January 2003 (Aged 27)

The Future

chained to the past
when,
we just want to sail into the future
not just chew on the grass
because, i stood still –
with my arms stretched out
and i felt a chill
then i found a child
chained to their past
their tears had frozen
and there is no way i could pass
if tears were money
most of us would be billionaires
chained to the past
it is all fenceposts and lamposts
ghost towns and fire smoke
the imagination is about to boil
because i stood still
we just want to sail into the future
not stay here
like solid statues of time
let’s move forward
and try to avoid the landmines
