War on Poverty – Written January 2003 (Aged 27)

War on Poverty

tell me about the war on poverty
because poverty is killing more
than terrorism ever did
bold political speeches
with no guts or intent
leave me starving with hope
that is twisted and bent
billions on a bloody pointless war
as if we are just not aware
so much wrong
so much poverty and starvation
no money available
for regeneration and elevation
the war on poverty screams out
from every country
and every city,
but governments will not change

James Garratt – January 2003
