What is a Sleeve For?

scared of the unconventional
always looked on
but never had the courage to take part
what is a sleeve for –
if not to display your heart?
scared of different coloured hair
by the crazy ill fitting jewellery
by the clothes some people wear
scared of the unconventional
and anything perceived as being different
always looked on
but never had the courage to take part
what is a sleeve for –
if not to display your heart?
bound by conventions
bound by a lack of self belief
bound by a lack of introspection
so scared to look underneath
always looked on
but never dared to leap
never spoke up
too scared, in case you will be disliked
or even cause some perceived offence
so a lifetime is spent sitting on the fence
always looked on
but never had the courage to take part
what is a sleeve for –
if not to display your heart
