The Stepdad Years

i have lived with trauma now –
for some years
it happened as a child
over the stepdad years
it happened,
when attachments were torn at their roots
when parental marriages
became quite mute
and i have lived with trauma now –
for a number of years
but as a younger thing,
i thought about the nature of abuse
i saw co-conspirators
tell me it was only an excuse
i saw the emotionally scarred
tell me,
happiness always tries too hard
but i have lived with trauma now –
for a number of years
and throughout my life,
i mistakenly,
and sadly, spread it to others
especially when i held their hands
and snuck under their covers
trauma,
the stepdad years
doused in hatred and bottles of hard beer
