This New House
this new house
has yet to find its feet
it’s windows for nearly ninety years
have stared out onto the street
and,
when we are alone,
i tell this new house
that i will endeavour to make it a home
and we have made sure,
that we have given this house our hope
a fireplace,
a stove with new smoke
this new house
it will be ours
it will be life, our future hours
it will be future days,
and we will live it in a variety of ways
this new house
has sat still and quiet for so long
from those who started out
to those who are now gone
and when we are alone,
i make sure i tell this house
that will make sure it becomes a loving home
