Childhood
childhood,
did not wrap me up in cotton wool
it dared me to jump
and climb the wall
it stole my bike
it ignored the rules
childhood did exactly what it liked
it was relentless,
and always put up a fight
if i was a spark
then it was most definitely alight
and if i was ever truly grownup
then it flew like the wildest kite
childhood,
did not gently lead me into the world
it stole my coat,
and turned on the cold
it drank away the my youth
and it looked so old
it mastered a planetary look
but i could not be so bold
it wrote the story,
but i was never truthfully told
it did not prevent the child,
it slow cooked my dreams
and it taught me how to feel
