We’re Not Alike
you think you know me
and you don’t think i understand
but then,
you don’t think,
do you?
you never really take my hand
i think, you think,
i have, ‘special needs’,
as i make my way –
in this, ‘big bad world’
you think your experience –
is something on which i need to feed
you think we are once and the same
like a victorian house with converted loft
well, we’re not two peas in a pod
we’re just not
you think i’m muddled and that i confuse
you think i contradict
that’s because you have preconceptions
and preconceptions often do not fit
let me tell you,
i get tired of the assumptions
of not understanding
and having to understand everyone else
i get tired –
of being told by others who i am
when i already know myself
even if often, i do not fully understand
