The Poverty Line
some people thrive –
with a knife in their back
of course it does not mean anything
it’s a small step to grander wealth
because they’ll pull out the knife
and plunge it into somebody else
it’s a small step on the ladder
a small step to greater wealth
but when you look into their minds
for depth, with, or intelligence
they are below the poverty line
they are redundant and terminally poor
and they know it too
so they are quick to take the knife
and plunge it into you
right in your back
the insecure and the cruel
will always go on the attack
it’s a small step to greater wealth
but with no lasting impression –
left on anybody’s mind
when it comes to offering anything of value
they will always be below the poverty line
