System Theory – Written Tuesday 17th December 2024 (Aged 49)

System Theory

you can’t cheat a system,
but…
it can cheat you.
hurdles placed,
but quickly moved,
and i sit here,
a tired prophet,
holding up a book of truths.
when it comes to praise,
you need to pack a parachute.
you can’t cheat a system,
but…
it can cheat you.
exotic
turns to toxic.
shiny and new
falls apart—
it’s true.
colorful
becomes the wrong hue.
the boat quickly sinks
as you bend down to change shoes.
you can’t cheat a system,
but it will, and it does,
absolutely cheat you.
