Relatable Sin
We have been broken
by not early on finding a wife,
one that was a trick or two.
Now I watch as they post
early 90s pictures,
where their life does not shift,
and I wonder if anything was ever new.
We have been broken
by not early on finding a husband.
There he is now,
on the drive,
and mortgage-free.
He stands with his wife,
wearing the same smile as they did in 1993.
Their life is wall stencils,
gin,
garden rooms,
garden bars,
and an avoidance of all relatable sin.
How did they survive all this?
How did they not question
or drown in those endless twenty-something lists?
We have been broken
because when we were young
we were un-oiled –
but tightly coiled springs
because we had stupid dreams —
and we dared to wish.
But we got lost in our insecurities
and in the lines and words of our lists.
