No Planned Destinations
we did not plan for the life we found
we did not predict these times
or even the sounds
we did not predict the battles
or the need for higher ground
we did not predict
the people we would love
or those we would lose and –
those we have found
we did not plan for where we are
we did not make maps
or add, many, if any destinations
along the way,
so many strange fascinations
we did not plan for the people
that became part of who we are
we never imagined any distance
we did not predict these things
it is brief, a moment, a blink or maybe two
it is one for us,
a journey of wild dreams for me and you
