Happiness Was Not Others

happiness was not others
in and out of houses
too many duvet covers
endless bottles of drink
never stopped to really think
it was not their self destruction
their inability to love
or emotions that never clutch
happiness was not others
the jump,
from place to place
the element of danger
the need to be needed
the enticement of strangers
happiness was not others
finally, insanity conceded
it was an invisible switch
in an invisible place
that operated the lights
behind my eyes, on my face
happiness is not others
