The Ferryman – Written Saturday 17th April 1999 (Aged 24)

The Ferryman

if i had to meet the ferryman
i hope he will be good to me
i hope he will understand
if i ever glimpse the ferryman
on his river in those underground lands
i hope he can take me back
i hope i never meet the ferryman
i hope i go to some place better
i hope the ferryman is good
i do not want him to be waiting for me
if i ever meet the ferryman
i know it will be long time before i see
i hope i have not got a place reserved
on the ferryman’s boat
i know that our fate can be deserved
but if i am going to that destination
i wonder if a little respect can be observed
i do not want to meet the ferryman
and if i ever do,
i know it will be a journey of fear
if i ever meet the ferryman
then i hope my angels are near
